“Incredible Value Every Day™” is not just a time-honored philosophy of Aldi Foods’ products, it’s a principle this Olathe, Kansas company incorporates into its day-to-day operations. This was demonstrated when Aldi decided to replace their antiquated high-pressure sodium light fixtures with Westinghouse high-efficiency T-5 fluorescent fixtures to improve the environmental efficiency of their warehouse operations.
Although significant, the savings from reduced energy consumption was not the only considering factor when deciding to convert their grocery distribution facility to fluorescent fixtures. The human factor was also an important aspect, so Warestar worked diligently with Westinghouse to design the correct configuration of fixtures necessary to improve lighting for all areas.
A variety of fixtures and accessories were used including some specifically designed for freezer and cooler applications. Motion and photo sensors were also used to conserve even more energy. In dock areas near windows, the photo sensors would turn off the fixtures when there was adequate sunlight to provide even greater savings. With the highly efficient Westinghouse fixtures and energy saving accessories, Aldi was able to see a 50% to 60% reduction in their energy costs.
Aldi needed a turn-key installation solution and Warestar was able to provide a quality installation team as well as proper disposal of the old fixtures. The future is bright for Aldi and Warestar is proud to have helped make that future even brighter.
